Kekkai Sensen Season 3 Release Date: Breaking Down The Possibilities

Despite the fact that Studio Bones is yet to release an official confirmation of Kekkai Sensen Season 3, there are very good chances of it happening in the near future. After all, the DVD/Blu-ray of the anime series sells incredibly well for both seasons. The first season, released in 2015 is the 7th best-selling anime in Japan, accumulating up to an average of more than 17000 copies sold. You can check the statistics provided by someanything.com in this link. At one point, the show dominates both the weekly charts of the DVD and Blu-Ray sales which is a remarkable feat rarely achieved by only the top tier animes. The actual figures for those sales are available here in this list provided by My Anime List.

The first two seasons have effectively covered the entirety of the original manga. Therefore, Kekkai Sensen Season 3 will have to adapt material from the sequel series written by the same author. Of course, it could take a direction using anime original materials but that seems a bit far fetch especially if a whole new season is a targeted project. It could perhaps work for a short OVA series or a movie adaptation. A short 24 minutes OVA episode is indeed available which has been released on 4th July 2018 by Bones.

It is most likely that Kekkai Sensen Season 3 will feature stories from the new manga ‘Blood Blockage Battlefront: Back to Back’, which has 5 volumes as of the writing of this article. The first season uses up to the sixth volume of the original manga, meaning producers could be waiting for new volumes to be published before they give the green light for Kekkai Sensen Season 3.

A certain website titled lifekino.com seems to claim that Kekkai Sensen Season 3 has been confirmed and scheduled for release on 7th October 2019. However, there are no sources that can back up this claim and it seems to be unreliable information. It might be worth checking out but it is most likely untrue. Keep your fingers crossed.

It should also be noted that hardly two years have passed since the release of the second season, therefore it is still early to call the shots for Kekkai Sensen Season 3. Anime sequels can take up a lot of time but it will be worth the wait if the new season is as good as the previous ones. Producers are most likely waiting for new volumes of the new manga, how similar it is to the previous franchise, and how much critical and financial success it is garnering.

Studio Bones is enduring a hectic season so far, with the recent release of two animes – ‘Carole and Tuesday’ and the third season of Bungo Stray Dogs. Furthermore, the much awaited My Hero Academia Season 4 is scheduled for release on October 2019. After that, Studio Bones hopefully will have enough time and resource to invest for Kekkai Sensen Season 3.

A good manga and anime DVD/Blu-ray sales rate, a high rating from My Anime List for both seasons (7.73 for the first and 8.04 for the second), a continuously updated source material, and Bones reputation of making sequels all translate to one final conclusion – there is a very high chance that we get Kekkai Sensen Season 3 in the future. However, keep in mind that our thorough research and speculations are all for naught unless and until the studio release any form of a substantial statement.

Therefore, we sincerely hope and believe that some news regarding Kekkai Sensen Season 3 will emerge at least by the end of 2019 or in 2020.

Kekkai Sensen Review: Squinoo’s Take

Kekkai Sensen has an uncanny resemblance to Code Geass –the protagonist has powerful ocular powers as well as cute, blind, disabled younger sister. Despite these glaring similarities, Kekkai Sensen is a very original anime on its own. With a setting as dark and cruel as Kekkai Sensen, it is simply amazing that the producers are able to insert humor into the show. The characters chemistry and interactions flow smoothly as it juxtaposes comedy and action into a very pleasurable watch. There are a few shows which can balance the two genres, as well as Kekkai Sensen, does.

The interesting plot doesn’t need to be repeated. It is not purely original but it is indeed unique to see a blend of monsters and gangster into a single story. The animation in both the manga and the anime are superb and highly deserving of the many praises they are receiving. Bones Studio rarely fails to deliver in creating beautiful animations after all. The soundtracks, particularly the blend of jazz music played in the background are melodiously stunning. Voice acting, openings and endings, and other audio technicalities all perform well, and the music feels like it belonged, never out of place.

There are complains that the story arcs within the show feel too short and episodic instead of what should be a single well-structured plot, but we don’t really care about that. We just want Kekkai Sensen Season 3.

So if you are a fan of the show like us, pray with us that Studio Bones will eventually go for it in the future. Thank you for reading, as always. See you next time!!
